I did a very small amount of research on the internet about using BioBricks In a Jotul fireplace insert.

The small amount of information I was able to gather quickly is that packed solidly in the insert, they burn nice and hot, but “probably” won’t over fire the unit.

I also read that Jotul is rewriting their manuals to inform owners that these bricks could void the warranty. I have no information on this from a professional source, but I do know it is something to consider.

For now they are more expensive than cut and split wood that is available in my area. The advertising states that they are about equal in price to regular hard wood, but the “truth in advertising” seems to have gone away just like the horse and buggy. I don’t always find that advertising is telling the truth and providing information, it is geared more to just selling. This makes me wary of just about all advertisers.

For now I wouldn’t personally recommend BioBricks or similar products unless Jotul is contacted directly.

I did contact Jotul of North America with a question, but never received an answer. I got the impression that they go through the dealers and basically don’t answer to the consumer. If there had been another unit that would have fit my fireplace with a similar heat output, I wouldn’t have gotten the Jotul.

I do believe they have quality products. I don’t know that they have even decent customer service at this point.

I do know that I probably won’t bother with BioBricks or a similar product unless Jotul comes out with information themselves, about their use and approval of such products.
