[singlepic id=86 w=320 h=240 float=right]A rooster is simply a cockerel that is fully matured and about one year old and is commonly referred to as a cock when talking about game varieties of chickens.

These pictures show the damage to Sophie’s neck from the rooster. I apologize for them being blurry, but it does show the damage. I should mention it is very normal for the rooster to pull out some feathers on the neck, but not to peck holes in the skin.

[singlepic id=178 w=320 h=240 float=right]I received pictures of from a couple friends that visited my site and they were kind enough to send me some pictures of their chickens coops.

This picture is of my new Buff Orpington Rooster and a couple hens. It appears that it is slightly blurred, but it does show what Buff Orpingtons look like at about 4 1/2 months.

One is very fancy, I assume at least some of the small doors open to allow for ventilation, and I don’t know how many chickens are kept by them, but it would seem that this is before Read the rest of this entry »

Sooner or later, the flock will need to be culled. Naturally this doesn’t apply to anyone that has them as pets.

Culling simply means taking the non-layers out of the flock.
