Welcome to my personal site about keeping a small flock of chickens.

Raising chickens or poultry definitely isn’t for everyone. With the modern building trends and the crowding of houses in suburban areas it is not possible for many people. However, generally the average rural home with an acre or two would make this project possible.

I wish to make it clear that I have no degrees in any type of animal husbandry or subjects of that nature.

I would also like to make it very clear that this is not a complete guide to raising chickens. I tried to give the basics, possibly enough to grow some chickens, but for the real information purchase one of the many books on the market!

The content of this site is based on a few books and government publications I have read, along with many years of caring for a small flock.

Before you start a flock:

· Things to consider before you decide to raise chickens in your backyard.

· Housing and equipment required for the small flock.

· Deciding on the type and breed for your flock.

· Information about caring for chickens and hens of all ages.

· Health and other problems.

· How to tell the layers from the non-layers.

· Some of my experiences.

If you have a story or a link that isn't totally commercial drop me an e-mail. I would like to post some stories from other poultry fanciers about their personal experiences. Thanks!
