Welcome to “Lobstering in Maine.
After losing my blog and all the information, I am in the process of getting some information back online.
The 2009 season is moving along and there has been no real big change from last year. Fuel is a little less expensive and bait is about the same. The price is even comparable to last year. Overall I believe I have caught a similar amount to last year so nothing really much different for me.
This is a picture of my boat while underway, 7 years later.

Looking toward Freeport, Maine.
The only real difference this year has been the unusually cool wet weather. We are finally into our first what can be called a heat wave. I must say the warm weather is welcome although it has been quite uncomfortable working for the past few days. The plus side is that with the lack of any real breeze, it has been ideal hauling traps.

Wow, sorry to hear you lost all that info on the site. If theres anything I can do to help let me know and I’ll do my best to help.
I don’t really feel that there is much that can be done. I do know Mr. Pratt made several posts that got a lot of visitors and he says he has them backed up so I am hoping he will replace them.
As to what happened, WordPress had an update which they continually have and I used the “auto update” and it filled the blog with errors. I contacted the host to do a full backup which they did. This compounded the problem and instead of errors in just one blog, all of my blogs were full of errors, etc.
Therefore I decided to just start over. It really is the wrong year to have things go wrong as everyone seems so interested in the lobster season this year.
Possibly it is actually a good thing in that as the blog grows, there will be more information and comments from members. I plan to give more privileges to members that want to make posts. It isn’t possible to do this for everyone and I do need to reserve the right to approve the posts.
I do still have your pictures and will try to get them up with a short article. I know you wrote one, but I don’t have it. I couldn’t get any of my databases to restore. I am on a new host now, hopefully it won’t happen again. I also have a scheduled backup so I shouldn’t lose more than a day or two.
Sorry to hear about loosing all that information. I have very much enjoyed checking in on your site periodically. Glad to see you are putting something back together. I will try to comment more in the future if I can figure that out, I have only been reading and not taking part in the discussions. Best of luck, here and on the water!
I appreciate your checking back and sorry my computer expertise is so poor.
I hope you do comment. I think Jay has the right idea because he is getting information out, and we either get off our butts and discuss things and see if we can’t agree on a few things and possibly have a group influence on what appears to be coming down.
With the fall weather providing more time off, then the winter shutdown, if we work together, we might really get somewhere in time to get some positive things done for all the lobstermen.
