The traps above are some I bought a couple years ago. I color code my traps although they have ID tags but I almost never get lost one’s back. |

Other Equipment and Traps |
|
Normally lobster boats, even the smaller one’s with will have a depth sounder. Anyone fishing over a hundred or two traps will usually have some of the more advanced equipment although not all have real fancy electronics. Overall I consider my boat to be “reasonably” equipped. I do have a stainless steel coil I put in a barrel to keep hot water and a small buss heater. The barrel is used to put ropes into to cook the slime, mussels, and other growth off the ropes and buoys. It makes things a little bit more pleasant but isn’t needed. Visible in the traps on the right are the “yellow” and one “orange” lobster vent. The holes in these vents allow all but the very nearly legal lobsters escape. They are held I with bio-degradable hog rings in case the trap is lost it will in time, open and the trap will not hold lobsters. The iron hog rings usually last a season without replacement but occasionally one will rust out before this and need to be replaced. |

I recently changed web hosts and am working on getting all aspects of my site up and running.
Probably not too important to my visitors but what actually happened is I backed up the site but for some reason it contained a virus and needed to be deleted.
I was left with no choices other than just leave it down or begin all over.
Thanks for your patience. |

This is some of my buoys leaning on traps drying. I sometimes wait until spring and paint all at once but many or most fishermen paint a few daily in their work shops during the winter. Spring weather can be a problem the way I do it. We all know about spring rains. |

Directly below are a couple slightly different lobsters I have caught. Note the yellow blotches on the one in the tray of lobsters and the half blue one my dog is looking at. The right side of the lobster was normal and the left side was blue. Although I guess normally they have a blue claw and a normal one this one had normal color claws and the blue was only on the body and tail.

Above is another bunch of traps I bought. Color coded in that they are red with a green and a yellow end. I personally don’t think any color fishes any differently that any other but for some reason the popular color, which is yellow, seem to do worse in real shallow water. I don’t think most lobstermen share this observation with me. I have no scientific proof so I really don’t know either but yellow and shallow water isn’t my favorite way to fish. Therefore when possible I put the yellow in deeper water. Even there I can’t see that they fish better than anything else. |
