I also agree with the smoking bans, to an extent. The caveat is always “my rights end where yours begin” which is essentially saying that if I am bothered by someone smoking, they shouldn’t be smoking. This makes sense in places like restaurants (remember the smoking and nonsmoking sections that were only separated by a 4-foot tall barrier?) but not so much in the open air. Heck – sometimes when I’m driving I can smell someone smoking AHEAD of me on the highway driving @ 70 MPH! That said, I fully support people’s right to smoke. I don’t smoke, but my father did and it killed him. I support the right to smoke just as I support my right to eat a cheeseburger or go skydiving. Everyone that thinks it’s cool and fun to jump on the antismoking bandwagon, just wait until your wonderful government deems your activities as unhealthy and starts taxing/banning them.

I personally think that these new police cameras are an awful idea. When you think about the fact that the government’s “no-fly watchlist” has more than half a million US citizens on it today, compared with the 16 people listed in 2001, you realize that there seems to be no limit to what the government can do in the name of “fighting terrorism” or “fighting crime.”

These cameras also could possibly be considered a violation of the fourth amendment of the Constitution. (The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches…shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.) Obviously a police officer cannot obtain a warrant on the spot, and therefore has no right to “search” your vehicle unless your driving shows that you are breaking the law. This actually then brings into question the legality of police officers running license plates through the computer system before ever having due cause to pull the vehicle over. (This is a practice that I have been told by police officers is very common.)

Went to Baker’s Smelt Camps in Pittston last night. Fished the going tide that was from about 5 0′clock for the high tide.

There were two of us and I estimate the catch to be close to 7 gallons. I caught enough so that they were flipping out of my bucket.

The shanty’s were just being put on the ice because of the ice jams on the Kennebec which might have contributed to what I consider a better than normal catch.

I joined your site. I also live in Maine. Not really sure why but I do share some of your ideas and enjoyed some of your posts.

Politics is quite interesting since the election. One can’t help but wonder where the country is going regardless of your political affiliation.

I have a few friends that just might want to join here or contribute if you keep most of the information here for things that actually affect Mainers.

Even if they don’t join, they might want to watch the site.

In order to keep this post a bit more current. I did notice the other day that prices in the surrounding area were somewhat closer to Gray’s prices than they have been for a while, however it’s still better to get gasoline out of town.
