Voting For Raises

I don’t know if anyone has ever thought about voting for raises, but I do know the fact that the legislature on the Federal level at least does vote for their own raises.

I did find it interesting that about $10,000 was voted for them, I think it was split between the house and senate, but it was voted in. At the very same time it was also voted in to freeze Social Security Wages.

At one time it was felt by fellow Americans and Mainers that the government, or at least the elected officials worked for the people. My assumption is that this still has not changed although I do believe we know that once in office, they do what they wish, but what they do is for our best interest.

In the past year I don’t feel that our government has really done a super job, therefore as one of their employer’s, not employee’s I question their performance and wonder if the raise was deserved. I do respect their position and realize they have done nothing wrong.

I wonder if anyone has ever thought of the consequences of letting people who work for them vote for their own raises. I mean if you really look at the facts, that is how the government works, shouldn’t it be this way for all levels of society, the worker votes for their raise, the employer just pays it.

Because it is the way it works in government, I guess it must be the best way to do things. I only hope it spreads. I sort of like the idea.
