For many of us the NextGen-Gallery for WordPress will present some minor problems. These problems will be relatively easy to overcome if you have what I consider a “better than average” understanding of computers and some basic programming skills.

My problem with it is, that it makes my websites load much slower than with any of the other plugins I use at this time. There are solutions but because of my lack of expertise, or competence with computers, I don’t recommend getting the latest release of this plugin. I don’t say this to upset the developer or those that use the plugin because it is a great plugin.

I don’t recommend it because it makes the blogs I have load much to slow. This is addressed in many forums and websites all over the internet. I found that because I don’t wish to rewrite some of the files, or make major editorial changes to files to alleviate this problem, I am much better off without the plugin.

I still have it on this site, as well as some others but am slowly editing my sites so that I can delete this plugin so I can reduce my loading times. I do find some of the earlier versions didn’t cause this problem, so at the present time I strongly recommend not updating NextGEN-Gallery if your site seems to be loading normally.

When I deactivate this plugin, my site easily loads twice as fast. The problem is that I have pictures on all of my sites which I wish to keep. This means I need to find a new way to post them, without using the NextGen-Gallery plugin. This is not a quick and easy fix if you have more than a very few pictures on your blog.

I find that when I encounter problems of this nature, the information is always available in the forums, the problem is that it usually requires hours of searching and reading to solve the problems. One of the most stressful things for me, concerning the WordPress Forums is that very often the posts concerning what I am searching for are “not resolved”. This simply means that it is necessary to do more searching.

The constant updating of computers and programming can be an incredible burden to those just trying to run a site or blog just to provide some information to others.

Overall I find that at least half of my time on the computer is spent updating and editing software when it should be spent on blog content and things of this nature.

If there is an “easy” fix for this plugin concerning the load speed of a blog, I would really like to hear from others to find out what it is.

I still have this plugin on my blogs. I do have one without it, which doesn’t have loading problems. Probably not definite proof, but I do know with future blogs, I will give up some frills to avoid some of the plugins, they just seem to bog my sites down.

Wordpress 2.9.1 gallery features is nice for posts with less than 200 photos.

You page does load very slow, 18.112 seconds. Have you tried using wp-cache with compression?
    Another good site is: ismyblogworking.com

Maybe it is your web host

    Hope that helps.

Tried the cache but I am quite limited on what I know how to do with software.

I sort of blame nextgen-gallery,it seems to show up way more than it should in my error logs.

Great cars on your site. Glad I followed your link.

Was checking out your other posts, Must be your host or the ip2nation part of next gen that is slowing things down.
18 seconds is a really long time for a page to load.

    I don’t care for nextgen gallery’s url re-writing.

Thanks for checking out my site. Is wordpress powered as well. Was searching about next-gen gallery and ran across your site.

    Hope the tips help.

Here is what I am using, it is a wordpress plugin that integrates with wordpress’s built in gallery

    http://transientmonkey.com/wp-slimbox2

If all you want to do is enlarge thumbnails, then it could easily replace next-gen gallery on your blog.

I get the ipnation errors. I don’t dare play with the databases. I am somewhat afraid of changing the picture plugins because it is so hard to get the pictures back up and into the posts without hours of work.

I will definitely check out the link you posted. I really do have to see what can be done about the speed that the site loads.

    I really appreciate your help.
