When a WordPress blog is loading very slowly, it generally is best to check the plugins to find the problem.
I know the speed that this site loads bothers my friends that keep coming back to see if I have any new posts, plus I have a few that have subscribed to the “RSS” feed to follow my ramblings.
Because I lack the computer expertise to remove all errors the site is still loading incredibly poorly.
The only things I have noticed is that hn4you keeps exceeding the maximum amount of e-mails being sent from my hosting account. The biggest problem is that my account should not have this url anywhere, so I have contacted support. Hopefully they will help, just to lower their bandwidth usage.
The second problem I have is with Ipnation which I mentioned elsewhere on this site. I could live without the statistics for the site, but prefer not to if possible. However, I believe the plugin that keeps calling on the (ipnation) file, needs to be deleted unless someone can help me and the fix is relatively simple. I can’t say that I really dare get into the sql databases and begin messing around and indications are that this is where the problem seems to be.
Another plugin that seems to be crippling my load time is “nextgen-gallery” and again, I don’t know how to repair this. I do get a massive amount of error messages in the control panel concerning this plugin, as well as something about thumbnails.
Maybe this is why so many people hire professionals to design and maintain their sites.
It isn’t really reasonable to discard the nextgen plugin once you have dozens of pictures uploaded and in the articles. I also haven’t found a good way to post all articles using the basic picture installer that is already in WordPress, after using the nextgen plugin.
I guess what would help is if the nextgen plugin put the pictures in with the names of the uploaded pictures, rather than some numbers or something indicating the picture. If the names of the pictures were the same, it would just be a simple matter of going through all articles and copying over them.
Pictures do slow a site down. The massive amount of error messages I am getting in control panel make things much worse.
If a non-professional has the time to contact me, I would greatly and sincerely appreciate any information they might be able to provide.
I am not condemning any of the plugins that are free. I do often feel that fixes for them in relatively simple terms would be a plus for all hobbyist bloggers.
